Advantages of Southwest Select Hockey Series

The Southwest Select Hockey Series Advantage

"Whether your team is looking for a few tournaments to supplement your season schedule, or you want a scheduled series with the opportunity to compete for an end-of-the-year Championship, Southwest Select Hockey Series is here for you."

----------

Be part of something special

Unlike a league where teams play the same teams each weekend, the Southwest Select Hockey Series is built on a model that allows our AA and A teams to also play games each month with visiting teams throughout the USA.

Our visiting teams may attend one or more of our tournament dates to play some of the Southwest’s most competitive teams, and a chance to win a tournament Championship banner. Since we do not require mandatory (and often expensive) hotel stays, and because we allow for flexibility on game times, these teams receive competitive game play at a lower overall cost than most tournaments.

  • All our tournaments have a 4-game minimum.
  • Squirts play minimum 13-minute periods, while Pee Wee, Bantam, Midget Minor and Midget Major teams play 15-minute periods.
  • Visiting teams: If you would like to schedule a friendship game on a Friday night in addition to tournament play, let us know and we'll help you set up opponent, find ice, and secure officials.
  • Games played Saturdays and Sundays, minimizing school absences for guest teams.

Our “core” series teams, (attending at least 4 of the 5 tournaments), will receive a competitive experience not found in AA or House A/B leagues. Another advantage of this minimum 20-game series format is that core series teams also benefit from an overall lower season cost.  Additionally, all core teams have an equal voice in series management.

Upon completion of at least 4 of the 5 tournaments from September to January, our core series teams will compete in the SWSHS Championship tournament in February 2013 to face off for the AA and A series season titles.

  • Two 2011-2012 season Tier II defending USA Hockey National Champions - 18U Dallas Oilers and 14U Dallas Ice Jets - are participating in the SWSHS.

The timing of this Championship Tournament will be announced once those core teams who plan to attend their State Tier II playoffs have confirmed the dates (Bantam and Midgets).

Whether your team is looking for a few tournaments to supplement your season schedule, or you want a scheduled series with the opportunity to compete for an end-of-the-year Championship, Southwest Select Hockey Series is here for you.
